Why Film Photography?
Film photography is one of my favorite ways to capture adventures. Shooting film is visceral. mechanical. tangible. Every camera has its own story and when you shoot it, you get to write part of it. Almost all of my cameras have stories. Who made them? What are they for? Where have they been? Some of my first cameras where passed down from my grandad and were with me on some of my first trips across the US, some I’ve picked up coming back from rock climbing with friends, and one was gifts from my wife on our wedding day. Every time I pick up one of my cameras, I am continuing to write those stories.
Shooting on film also forces you to slow down. Enjoy the momment. Be there distraction-free. Focus on your shot, and your subject. It makes you find the value in what is around you and try your best to distill it into something that can do the beauty, the majesty, or even the peculiarity, justice.
